Introduction to eLearning
eLearning Course on Documentation and Communication of Best Practices for HIV/AIDS Programmes
Southern Africa HIV and AIDS Information Dissemination Service (SAfAIDS) on the 1st of April 2011, launched a Documentation and Communication of Best Practices for HIV/AIDS Programmes eLearning Course. The purpose of the eLearning course is to create a virtual classroom where learners from any location globally can access information and learn about Documentation and Communication of Best Practices for HIV/AIDS Programmes.
Effective eLearning enhances the learning environment, disseminates knowledge to diverse audiences, and engages participants more efficiently and cost effectively than traditional approaches. SAfAIDS intends to reach a wider target audience through this eLearning platform.
Benefits of taking the eLearning programme
Our eLearning courses are:
- easily accessible in low bandwidth settings
- available online 24 hours a day, seven days a week
- free of charge
Learners work through the course at their own pace. They test their knowledge of the subject matter at progress checkpoints (quizzes) throughout the courses in pre- and post-tests as well as in a final exam. The SAfAIDS eLearning programme facilitates virtual knowledge exchange and learning among public health professionals at global, regional, and national levels. This enhances the use and dissemination of evidence-based, accurate and up-to-date information to improve documentation and communication of best practices in the region and beyond.
The objectives of the SAfAIDS eLearning includes:
- Providing education for people interested in various health related thematic issues;
- Keeping learners up-to-date on content on key documentation and communication of Best Practices related topics;
- Demonstrating how learners can apply evidence-based information to real-life situations;
- Supplementing existing training programmes without incurring additional costs to learners;
- Conversion of existing material into formats appropriate for engaging eLearning courses;
- Training of course authors and organisations to create eLearning courses;
- Integrating eLearning with communities of practice and eForums.
