Launch of World Vision South Africa’s Child Health Now Campaign, Johannesburg, South Africa
Launch of World Vision South Africa’s Child Health Now Campaign, Johannesburg, South Africa
In November 2009, World Vision launched Child Health Now, its first global advocacy campaign, with the aim of reducing the preventable deaths of children under five. So far the campaign has been launched in the USA, Kenya, Canada, Australia, UK, Taiwan, India, Armenia, Bolivia, Brazil, Indonesia, France, Ireland, and Japan.
World Vision South Africa hereby invites your presence at its launch event on the 20th October 2010 in Johannesburg. WVSA is also happy to announce that the launch will be graced by its International President, Mr Kevin Jenkins, who will be visiting South Africa during this time. A month before the Launch Mr Kevin Jenkins will be one of key speakers at the UN Secretary General's Launch of the Global Strategy on Maternal and Child Health on 22 September 2010.
World Vision is investing $1.5 billion (US) globally, over the next five years, into strengthening maternal and child health programmes to make child health now a reality.
This year 2010 is an important milestone in the global push to achieve the Millennium Development Goals. The health goals, particularly those for child and maternal health (MDGs 4 and 5) are the most off track with nearly 9 million children under five and over 350,000 mothers still dying each year. South Africa Infant Mortality Rates stands at 67:1000 (UNICEF 2008), a cause for concern and action. Through Child Health Now, World Vision will support communities to raise their voices about their right to quality health care, and together we will work with the SA government and partners to meet our collective responsibility to children, mothers, families and communities.
WVSA believes in the care of all children, we need renewed commitment to caring for all children is essential within the home and health care facilities. If you would like more information about World Vision, our work, or our policy positions please do not hesitate to get in touch with me. Your attendance will be greatly appreciated.
Yours sincerely
