Antiretroviral Treatment Skills and Knowledge (ASK) Notebook for Community Workers in Southern Africa: Third Edition. 2008, SAfAIDS
This issue focuses on a very important illness which frequently causes serious health complications (and often deaths) in people living with HIV. Because of the weakening of the immune system through HIV, many PLHIV develop active tuberculosis (TB) – one of the most serious of the opportunistic infections which may affect them. This is called ‘co-infection’. TB spreads easily because the bacilli (germs) which cause it are carried in the air, but it is very hard to diagnose in PLHIV.
