Policy Dialogues

SAfAIDS in collaboration with NAPSAR, the southern Africa regional network of PLHIV provided both technical and financial support to six national networks of PLHIV to successfully host policy dialogues where they engaged policy makers on pertinent HIV policy related issues. The table below outlines the policy dialogues that were conducted and their outcomes.

Goal of policy dialogues

The goal of policy dialogues is to create a platform for open, frank and meaningful experience sharing, reflection and strategising on topical issues affecting a section of the population, such issues could be related to HIV and AIDS policies and programmes.

Objectives of policy dialogues

A policy dialogue has both short and long term objectives.

In the short term a policy dialogue seeks to:

  • Create a platform for open, frank and meaningful experience-sharing, reflection and strategising on topical issues affecting a section of the population
  • To introduce a policy issue and keep it in the public domain until the desired change is found

In the long term a policy dialogue seeks to:

  • Address policy issues by either enforcing implementation of a current policy, or formulating new policies, or reforming current policies.
